On the topic of parenting...
Jenn Zuber - Tuesday, June 24, 2008
Jenn’s Blog
Since having Ethan, I have discovered a love affair with the Australian parenting magazine Kindred. I find it informative, not too preachy, low on advertising and fits in nicely with my lifestyle and parenting choices.
Recently, the editor, Kali Wendorf, has announced she is pregnant with her third child. Kali is brave enough to journal this pregnancy in her blog for all to read. I thought you might be interested in reading and following along on Kali's journey. She raises some really interesting questions and backs up her thoughts with sound research.
In Kali's own words she plans "to use this blog to diarise my pregnancy and birth journey. My hope is that it will be of some support in some way to others. It is my intention to be as honest, candid and open as possible. Being 43 (I’ll be 44 by the time the baby is born), planning a homebirth, working pretty much full time, have no intention of doing any prenatal tests (read Sarah Buckley’s wonderful material on pregnancy, birth and prenatal testing in her book Gentle Birth Gentle Mothering, available at the Kindred shop and still burdened with the looming Pap Smear question [Kali had a CIN 3 pap result shortly before she found out she was pregnant] means that my case is rather unusual. How will it all pan out? What will be my challenges, my disappointments and my thrills? I’ve decided to let it all be here on these pages. I hope you will contribute your thoughts, ideas and stories as well in the comments section. Certainly that will make it an even richer experience for all of us."
Enjoy!

More on Aussie Life
Jenn Zuber - Wednesday, June 18, 2008
Jenn’s Blog
Another thing we recently did when we had family visiting us was visit Featherdale Wildlife Park. If you ever visit Sydney, please put this on your must-do list!
Featherdale is a like a zoo, but more personal. You can get up close to kangaroos, koalas, wombats, Tasmanian devils, fairy penguins and other amazing Australian wildlife.
For a true "circle-of-life" experience, be sure to visit the owls and predatory birds exhibits where you can witness them feeding. I won't go into detail for the sake of the faint-hearted. Needless to say, Ethan found this intriguing and continues to talk about it today, whereas Eileen was not so impressed.
The staff at Featherdale are so pleasant and their talks are very informative. The Koala and Kangaroo exhibits are probably the most popular where you can have your photo taken with a koala and feed a kangaroo. Here are some pics:
Koalas: Here I am with Ethan and Kaleb. Kaleb was actually a "feature exhibit" it seemed to some of the other tourists who thought he was just adorable in his Chicken Scratch Ring Sling (I love my Chicken Scratch sling, Jade design, by the way!).
Kangaroos: Ethan feeding a kangaroo some kanga-food in an ice-cream cone (dairy not included).
Aussie Wildlife: Here are some pics of some of the other Aussie wildlife that you can see at the park including Albino Kangaroos, Kookaburras, Tasmanian Devils, Wombats and Echindas.

Aussie life
Jenn Zuber - Tuesday, June 17, 2008
Jenn’s Blog
When we first entertained the thought of having a blog on our website, it occurred to me that this would be a great way for me to share what it is like living and parenting in Australia with all my friends, family and customers overseas. When I travel back to the USA to visit, I am so often asked what it is really like living in Australia and if I really do have kangaroos in my backyard (for the record, I don't in Sydney, but I did when I lived in Canberra. He was a huge grey kangaroo that looked like a true boxer. He lived near the river down the road, but often would visit my backyard at night. I even had a resident wombat!).
So, whenever I get a spare minute, which are few and far between with two kids and a business to run, or have something that I really want to say, I'll post about Aussie life. I thought I would take this opportunity to talk about some recent vacations, or holidays as they are called down under, that we've been on and show you some pics.
We've recently had a stack of visitors and the opportunity to do some travelling within Australia. I am a total travel nut - I'm addicted to it. It probably drives my husband nuts, but as soon as we get home from one trip, I am already planning the next. These past few months have been great because we've been able to travel to places that I have always wanted to see, which is rare when you have 2 kids in tow.
Fraser Island
Just before Kaleb was born, we took Ethan away for a long weekend to visit the world heritage listed Fraser Island. This is a gorgeous, all sand island off the coast of Queensland. We spent our days lounging by the pool, which was great being 7 months pregnant, 4 wheel driving (good scenery, but not so great on the bump), and digging for crabs on the beach. The flora and fauna on this magnificent island cannot be beat.
Here are pics from the trip to show you some of the highlights:
Lake McKenzie: a picture perfect lake with clear blue water, covering over 150 hectares and 5 meters deep. This lake is perched high on a sand dune at 100 meters above sea level. It was freezing water, but very refreshing. The sand was soft as snow. Ethan loved rolling around in the water with his floaties on.

Lookout to lake and ocean: this was a gorgeous lookout we trekked down to on foot after a long 4 wheel drive through some crazy tracks! I can't remember the name of the lake though. It might be Lake Wabby.

Maheno Shipwreck: Ethan playing in the sand near this amazing wreck site. We have a picture of this wreck hanging in our staircase at home. Ethan is convinced that Captain Feathersword is responsible for the wreck. It's so sweet.

Kingfisher Bay Resort: We were lucky enough to stay at this gorgeous eco-tourism resort.
Uluru and Kata Tjuta
After Kaleb was born, we had some family visiting from the USA who wanted a "true Aussie adventure". So, we took them to Uluru, otherwise known as Ayers Rock. This was another world heritage listed, spectacular location. Words can't describe "The Rock". It changes color throughout the day as the sun moves from sunrise thru to midday and then to sunset. It is massive! And the Aboriginal legends and history of the place are mesmerizing. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Uluru, here are some photo highlights:
Uluru: at Sunrise
The gorgeous blue Aussie sky: over Uluru. Here you can see the unique depression and formations in the rock.
Kata Tjuta: also know as The Olgas. Another large rock formation close to Uluru.
A funny Aussie sign:
Sydney Royal Easter Show
Another thing we did just after Kaleb was visit the Sydney Royal Easter Show. I grew up in Pennsylvania where the Grange Fair was THE event of the year. Well, the Grange has nothing on the Sydney Show! It's like the Grange Fair on some serious steroids! With animal exhibits, art and craft, rides and games, food halls, and woodchopping shows, this fair has it all. Here are a couple of amusing photos I took:
Piggies: When I saw this, I was glad that I only had one baby at a time to feed.
Best Male: I thought it was funny how Ethan was standing next to a sign that says "Best Male". He is in my eyes!
Happiness: As we were about to leave after a very long day with an almost-three year old, we passed through the food halls where they exhibit giant pieces of art made from all natural products, mainly food items. This particular exhibit caught my eye because I thought it summed up life as a parent pretty well, no matter what country you live in:
I'd love to read your comments about this post. And feel free to ask me questions about life down under that I can post answers to in future blog posts.

Baby and Kids Swimwear Sale
Jenn Zuber - Tuesday, June 17, 2008
Jenn’s Blog
This month we are pleased to offer 15% off our line of baby, toddler and kids swimwear.
Our swim wear is by madeforsundays and is Australian designed and made from Italian fabric. It is exquisitely made and just so beautiful. All madeforsundays swimwear is UPF rated offering excellent UV protection. These baby and kids swimsuits are the perfect outfit to top off a great day at the pool or beach.
The hibiscus and aloha designs offer a fresh take on traditional toddler swimwear, which is so often done in outdated flouro colors. Instead, our madeforsundays kids swim suits are made from beautiful UV protective fabric in Pink and Aqua with hibiscus design or gender neutral Red and Navy with Aloha design.

Available in short or long sleeves and boyleg shorts or longer cycle shorts, we're sure you will love this swimwear as much as we do. So go on, celebrate summer and splurge on some gorgeous swimwear for your little one.

New SMiRK shipment just arrived!
Jenn Zuber - Saturday, May 31, 2008
Jenn’s Blog
Hot off the postman's truck is our recent shipment from SMiRK and we are thrilled about it! We've been anticipating the arrival for a while (thanks to a mix up by Aust Post - thank you to the lovely team at SMiRK for being so great to work with and helping to get us our order!!!). And we are excited to say it's here!
SMiRK is a funky kids clothes, all Aussie label - Australian designed, made and even hand printed. They have a refreshing approach to their designs. Their printed short sleeve tees, long sleeve tees, baby tees & bloomers sets and baby blankets are so sweet for babies and kids alike. The SMiRK baby blankets even come in a matching cotton drawstring bag, making them a perfect baby shower gift.

And I love their Ruffle sets. These hip baby clothes make me wish I had a girl to dress. My relatives better get crackin' on producing a niece for me to shop for :)
I've dressed both Ethan and Kaleb in SMiRK since they were babies and I can say they are the best quality clothes! I know you will like them, too.
